Why Social Media Loves Donald Trump

Donald Trump is known for his outlandish and unorthodox approach to politics. He has no problem speaking his mind without any hesitation. Donald is a live wire. He appears to not care about what his opponents think, or many potential voters. Most people would think why is this a good or bad thing.

The right-wing voters are clearly in favor of Donald’s actions and stances on most issues, according to the latest political polls he is up 20%.  The left-wing candidates appear to enjoy his untraditional ways. President Obama has made numerous jokes about his message delivery. So we see Donald has plenty of support but who is really loving him right now?

Donald’s biggest supporters are the media channels and websites. Donald has boosted ratings for every network when they are covering something he did. His actions are so untraditional people regardless of their political affiliation want to see what he is going to do next. Anytime I turn on the news I see a majority of the time being taken up by the latest Donald Trump remarks or actions. Regardless of political affiliation CNN, Fox, NBC, and many more love the guy. They will continue to love him as long as he is in the race.

At the end of the day if you know how media works you understand they are sololey concerned about their ratings. As long as the viewers are watching they will continue to keep the same media agenda. As long as Donald continues his live wire, unorthodox ways the media will continue to feed their viewers his content.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor day weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the year. Every year my family and I go to our lake house in Northern Michigan. The trip is composed of many great outdoor activities. This year was unique compared to the years before. The trip was unique due to several new people and animals that made the trip with us. This year my sister brought her fiancé Matt. My mom and dad brought their new puppy, and my cousins brought family friends whom I had not met before.

I left ONU right after my last class ended. I was eager to arrive at the lake house. The drive up to Michigan always takes forever, as opposed to the ride back. When we finally arrived around 8 p.m. dinner was waiting for us outside on the picnic table. We had the whole spread from grilled chicken, burgers, and hot dogs to corn, baked potatoes, and pasta salad. One of my favorite parts of Labor Day weekend vacation is all of the food I get to eat. When you live on a college budget your meals are not quite as extravagant as the ones I received in Michigan.

After we unpacked and talked the night away down on the dock we went to bed. Saturday came around quick, and we were ready for it. There was not a cloud in the sky. I woke up went for my morning run, ate breakfast, and gassed up the boats. We spent the entire day out on the water. I could not have been happier.  We taught the new puppy George how to swim, we wake boarded, we tubed, and most importantly we were all together. The day ended again with another feast, but this time we went out to dinner.

Sunday arrived and we were eager to get the day going. My dad and I make a valiant effort every year to go do some exploring. One year we went all of the way up to the Upper Peninsula and had to put the truck in four-wheel drive to get through a muddy path in the woods. The path looked like something you would see on the extreme motor sports channel. So we went and explored, we found a few beautiful places with exceptional views.

I am very grateful for the time I have been able to spend with my family over Labor Day weekend. I probably wont see them again until Thanksgiving. I like this trip every year because I get to be reminded of how blessed I am to be able to enjoy the things I like with the people I love. There is nothing in the world that I enjoy more than being with my family up at the lake.

Arriving back to Ada is always a good way to end the weekend. Everyone is getting back to campus, and starting to get in their routines again. I am glad ONU allows us to have Labor Day off every year.

Responsive Reading Chapters 6-7

This week we read chapters 6 and 7 in Real-Time Marketing & PR by David Meerman Scott. The two chapters discuss many important social media strategies. The main points discussed are the dos and don’t’s when dealing with a potential crisis, and when we should engage the media.

There is no secret if you have ever watched the news covering a crisis situation that they tend to attack it from every angle. This is how media works. Anytime there is a crisis within an organization there is a need to get your facts in line, and be prepared to give the media something. You should never avoid a situation, lie, or not comment. When dealing with situations you need to be prepared to give the media something.

When you avoid the problem it only gets worse, and leaves room for your organization to be put in an even worse light. With that Chapter 7 does a great job highlighting the importance of building relationships with the media. If you are routinely keeping in touch, and being polite to the media they will often want to help you out. Instead of ruining your image, they might make the decision to try and help your image through their delivery of your message. The media can spin any situation t=in any direction they want just so it will sell. Building relationships is key to handling any situation proactively.

Immediately when reading this I though of a situation a professional friend of mine encountered not too long ago. He was dealing with a crisis situation, the media was asking him for a quote, and his advisor wouldn’t let him say a word. The media took this as the organization being unknowledgeable, and lying about the situation. Immediately reports started coming in that really hurt the program image, until they decided to take responsibility for their actions, and put together a plan of attack which started with telling the media the truth, and what they are doing to fix it.

Always be honest, and never let a situation grow. Put the fire out before it ever starts.
